In 1995 IRS wanted everything I had apparently more than I did.

What seemed like a disaster of monstrous proportions became of blessing in disguise. I hated my life, but was not willing to let go of the only thing I knew. IRS did fast work of my "things."

"I used to have a business, house and car payments. Now I don’t. IRS was so good to me."

It took two painful years to get over the pain and "poor me" lamenting. IRS finally admitted they were in error. Too late. I finally reached an inner understanding that for the rest of my life I could be a miserable victim or I could rise above and go in a new direction in strength and courage. I cautiously learned to reset and start moving forward again.

* I didn’t want another 8 to 5 obligation or someone telling me what to do.
* I wanted to be able to stop and look at a flock of wild turkeys if I wanted without being late.
* I didn’t want to meet people in the hope of selling them some new multilevel opportunity.
* I wanted my own unique product. No competition. You can only get it from me.
* I wanted to be able to work at home with something not too time or life consuming.

I wanted to get a place in the country where I could grow a garden and be around good people. Be able to look at fluffy clouds, have a flock of fluffy baby chicks at my feet, go down and pick a bucket of ripe juice blackberries for a cobbler. Have a pretty sweetheart go for long walks in the woods with me, looking for wildflowers and colorful butterflies. Make bread hot out of the oven, spread with homemade jam. Build a big greenhouse to grow things all winter. Travel the world and see what’s there. Could this be possible?

In April 2000 I drove my motor home from the west coast and found my farm. My dream list was happening! Among the trees and creeks and I wrote with clarity, purpose... and joy.

The books you see offered on this homespun website were inspired from my own life experiences. May you write your story, your irresistible urge to put words on paper. You know what I’m talking about.

Don’t you just wish there was some easier way showing how to get started? Here’s how I did it.

How I got started - my goodness! It was an accident, folks.
I have always had a deep burning desire to write books. I longed to have people say they had read my books and it had a favorable and significant impact on their life.

Over the years I heard the tedious and heartbreaking stories of "published" authors that worked so hard as the book, enthusiasm, and money disappeared.

Conventional publishing seemed like the only way. Spend years writing your book, then spend more years begging to get noticed by a publisher or agent. After huge effort a few books get "accepted." The rest fade into obscurity with neither riches or success. What is wrong with this picture?

Other more adventurous people made the decision to be their own publishing. You write your book, have it typeset, then print 1000 to 2,500 copies. Your investment is around $10,000, and you still have to sell a bunch just to break even. That’s still a high risk factor if you ask me. You also may have 40 or more big cases of books all over your house for years. Many wonderful, much needed books would never get into print with these disadvantage hanging over their heads.

I heard "helpful" advice as I was getting started: "You never make money on the first run – it all goes to expenses." Why work so hard if you’re not going to make any money until some vague time in the future?

I figured there had to be a better way. Have low start-up costs, self produce, and sell a few copies at a time until you are ready to expand your comfort zone. Keep it small, safe, with a low investment and mentally do-able.

I started my publishing career some time ago by self- publishing a book on finding unique and truly amazing travel bargains. I didn’t have a guideline and wasted a lot of time, fixing, experimenting, and redoing. I became the expert on how not to do it. I was getting more experience and wisdom than I wanted or had time for.

I had all kinds of trouble creating my first book. I thought it would take a few days; in actuality it took many weeks, working long days. A $1,000 detailed instruction book would have saved me money, but I couldn’t find one. What about all the details before you get it printed? I made copious notes to help me remember the different things I tried and whether or not they worked. It’s amazing how much you forget if you don’t write it down.

In the end, I accidentally created a wonderful book on how to self publish a book. It was MY time-saving "$1,000" instruction book for next time. It turned out that the technical formatting and editing took as long to do as writing the manuscript in the first place. Now I knew the many shortcut secrets and shortly you will too.

At social events I would casually mention I had just finished writing a book on travel bargains and was selling it to the public. This certainly grabbed their attention. People often said they had always wanted to write a book but didn’t know where to start, and they certainly were not in a financial position to take on such a project. They asked me how it was done. I told them I wrote a step-by-step manual for myself on how to do it. Interested listeners immediately asked how much the book cost and if I had one with me for sale. I said, "No, I wrote for myself, so I’d remember how to do it 90 percent faster next time."

Because my momma didn’t raise no fool, I started taking advance orders. Then I began adding to and fine tuning this book.

While learning to solve my own problems, I found other people were interested in solutions too. I didn’t expect to turn this into a book. It’s like being in the front yard trying to sell lemonade to people passing by, but everybody wants to buy the table it’s all sitting on instead. If enough people want the darn table, sell it to them and find a source for more. Keep your mind open to what folks want and what excites them. It’s in keeping with the universal "find a need" entrepreneurial spirit.

Now that this has become a real book, I have added many items to help guide you all the way through the process, including special ingenious ways to do it. You can now write and publish only one copy of a book if you wish, for only a couple dollars plus your typesetting time. Not a huge scary investment. Output one copy, make changes and keep progressing. Output more books and sell them.

I cleaned up the manual, ran it through the production steps and there it was, done better and faster than before. This was becoming more fun and less frustrating than the previous experience.

I see delightful future possibilities already. Some nights I can hardly sleep because I’m thinking of possible future book ideas. When I go swimming or jump into the shower entire chapters come to me.
