HOW DOES RCI, THE EXCHANGE COMPANY WORK?

Q: Tell me more about RCI and its background.
A: RCI, the largest and oldest exchange company in the world, allows timeshare owners to exchange their weeks with other owners world-wide. They have been operating for nearly 30 years. They provide you with a directory of their resorts, and this is updated regularly. They also send out their "ENDLESS VACATION" magazine, every 2 months, which is very informative and includes many special packages and specials. They have a travel agency for RCI members only, which offers discounted air-fares, car-hire, cruises, as well as last minute mid-week or weekend getaways at greatly reduced prices, without having to use the time that you have deposited.

Q: What fees do RCI charge?
A: A-1 Vacations will give you RCI membership for the current year, plus several further years. Thereafter each RCI member is liable for the RCI annual fee, which is currently $89 per member, regardless of how many weeks you own. RCI charges an exchange fee every time you make a reservation through them.

Q: Can I only make an exchange if someone else uses the week that I own?
A. No. Once they accept your week you are no longer responsible for it. You now have a week credited to you

Q: What expenses do I have?
A: You pay an annual maintenance fee to the developer at the resort where you made the purchase, plus an exchange fee to an exchange company, RCI, every time you make an exchange.

Q: Do I have to go to my resort every year at the same time?
A: No. When you purchase timeshare we provide you with membership of RCI, the largest timeshare exchange company in the world, with offices world-wide, and after placing your week, or weeks into their pool, you are immediately eligible for an exchange vacation at their many resorts. The world is now your oyster!

Q: Is my property deeded or leased property?
A: All the properties that A-1 Vacations sell are sold to you "IN PERPETUITY", and are fee simple. They belong to you and your heirs forever. Your investment is in a Shareblock Development, and you will receive a share certificate, after your purchase has been registered, which must be produced should you at any time decide to sell your property

Q: Do I have to bring linen and crockery, etc, when I go on a timeshare vacation?
A: No. Whether you have purchased a 1, 2, or 3 bedroom unit, most RCI resorts that you will exchange into, will provide you will crockery, pans, blenders, toasters, microwaves, irons, flat-ware, linen and towels. You will want for nothing. Some resorts do daily house-keeping, and others at mid-week. If this is of concern to you, you should contact the resort beforehand to find out what their policies are.

Q: How do I make exchanges?
A: Exchange works like a bank account:
1. DEPOSIT your vacation time---this is known as space banking your time. This may be done from 2 years to 14 days before its start date.
2. REQUEST the resort you would like. Many people make offers on several resorts and dates wanted.
3. RECEIVE a confirmed exchange. You will get a confirmation letter to present at the resort front desk.
4. GO!

Q: Does it make any difference when I deposit my weeks with RCI?
A: Yes. It is also very important to SPACE BANK (place into RCI pool) the week that you own, as early as possible. This may be done up to 2 years in advance. The earlier you deposit your weeks the more trading power it has.

Q: Is there a waiting period after I deposit my weeks before I can travel?
A: No. The moment that you place your week into the space bank pool, you immediately become eligible for a timeshare exchange, and can go ahead and make your request. As long as you space bank your week as early as possible, you should have no difficulty in obtaining an exchange to your liking. All exchanges are made based on availability. Last year, RCI satisfied over 98% of requests.

Q: Do all resorts have an equal trading power?
A: No. There is a big difference. Some people just don’t seem to get a confirmed reservation using their local based timeshare. They may have even paid top dollar for it. They have heard of their resort, but no one else has. It is better to get one with known international trading power. Find which places trade best. Be open minded to what works, not just what you are familiar with.

Q: What is the difference between fixed and "flex" weeks?
A: With fixed weeks you go on vacation the same week each year. With "flex" you can go anytime you want. This is the preferable and premium timeshare option.

Q: How do I ensure that I can exchange my timeshare to where I want to go on vacation?
A: The main factor in ensuring that you have favorable "Trading Power" is to purchase RED timeshare, which is Peak Period time, and which you can use to exchange for any time of the year. "Flex" time means you can go anytime week you want.
